Harvey Weinstein Sexual Harassment Allegations Just The Beginning Of The Downfall Of Hollywood Elites?

Are the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment allegations just the beginning of the downfall of Hollywood elites?

As more accounts of Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment or sexual assault of actresses are in written about or talked about in the news, more people in Hollywood, many of who you wouldn’t even expect to come forward, are coming forward with their own stories of sexual harassment and assault.

Just yesterday, in a series of 16 tweets, Terry Crews came forward with his account of being sexually harassed, “groped [in the] privates” by a Hollywood executive at a party last year.

Rob Schneider also came forward to reveal that early in his career, he too was sexually harassed by a Hollywood director.

A long list of actresses have given their accounts on sexual harassment from Harvey Weinstein.

These are some of the biggest names in Hollywood, some of the most powerful female actors. They include Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rose McGowan.

What all the news shows is that Harvey Weinstein wasn’t a lone figure, he was part of a pervasive culture in Hollywood. These elite or high level Hollywood executives abused their power, targeting men and women alike.

They went after actors who couldn’t come forward out of fear of being blacklisted from their industry. They targeted young actors who had a lot to lose. They targeted minority actors, who, like Terry Crews pointed out, feared the headline, “240 lbs. Black Man stomps out Hollywood Honcho.”

Who are some of the other Hollywood elites abusing their power?

Rose McGowan claims that Ben Affleck knew about Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment and is lying when he says he doesn’t know. Additionally, actress Hilarie Burton, the One Tree Hill actress is accusing Ben Affleck of groping her chest on TRL in the 00’s.

What can be done about this pervasive culture of sexual harassment in Hollywood and other industries?

  • Speaking out like actors and actresses are doing now is important! It creates a space for others to share their personal experiences that they otherwise would not share.
  • Make formal complaints. If you’re retaliated against for complaining, then you may have a legal case. Speak to an attorney and find out more about your rights regarding your specific case.
