Last week a multi-million dollar lawsuit was filed against Amazon in the New York Supreme Court for wrongful death and disability discrimination.

The family of deceased Amazon employee Ronald W. Ashley, brought the suit against Amazon.com, Inc. alleging that the mega-corporation’s negligence led to their family member’s wrongful death. Ronald was a Senior Human Resources Business Analyst at Amazon.

After Ronald, who had complicated health issues related to HIV and other medical issues, fell in the shower while on a business trip and exacerbated his health issues, he suffered further when Amazon failed to provide disability compensation and other contractually-mandated benefits.

Despite being aware of Ronald’s disability and direness of his health issues that came about as in connection to his disability, Amazon ignored Ronald’s requests for short-term disability and reasonable accommodation. The lawsuit, Mary Gipson et al. v. Amazon.com, Inc., alleges that as a result, Ronald’s health continued to drastically decline and ultimately Ronald died a few months later from a heart attack.

The plaintiffs argue that had Amazon honored the contractually agreed upon benefits and accommodations while Ronald was disabled that he would not have passed away.

The family is seeking $6,586,000 in damages against Amazon.com, Inc.

Amazon is not the only company facing serious discrimination allegations. An ex-manager from Facebook claims that black employees faced discrimination and exclusion.
